The PSSN-Northern Luzon Chapter (then PSSN-CAR Chapter by virtue of its board resolution, resolution page 1 and resolution page 2) will hold its 7th Annual Scientific Conference on November 20-23, 2013 at the Capitol Resort Hotel , Lingayen, Pangasinan. The conference is guided by this year’s theme “Promoting a Sustainable Society through Nature Studies.”
The four-day activity will be highlighted with a keynote and plenary talks by invited experts on the different sub-themes (research, technological innovation and social development) led by Dr. Resurreccion Sadaba (University of the Philippines Visayas), Dr. Cecilio Baga (Cebu Technological University), Dr. Jesusa Ortuoste (Sultan Kudarat State University), and Dr. Ricardo Bagarinao (University of the Philippines Open University), paper and poster presentations by students (high school and undergraduate) and professionals, a general assembly, and a business meeting that will tackle issues concerning the chapter as well as the election of the new set of PSSN-NL officers and Board of Trustees. The conference aims to bring together scientists, engineers, mathematics and modeling experts, educators, gender and development advocates, environmental managers and students from all over the Northern Luzon and nearby regions to:
- Provide sound scientific knowledge, technology and a dynamic system-based frameworks enabling management of human activity on a sustainable basis by:
- identifying more efficient ways and means of building capacity and ensuring acceptable quality of life for people; and
- presenting lessons learned and identifying success factors relative to minimizing the ecological impact of human activity to levels that the natural systems can sustain;
- Serve as a forum for cross-sectoral and multidisciplinary dialogue between scientists, educators, engineers, environmentalists, social scientists, concerned citizens, and policy makers on issues related to promoting a sustainable society.
An educational field exposure is scheduled on the last day of the conference (with a separate charge of Php 700) to allow participants to explore, enjoy and learn from the natural wonders, history, culture and the agricultural practices of the people of Pangasinan.

Registration fees cover four day lunch, AM and PM snacks, conference kit, and certificates. Presentors (for both oral and poster papers) are encouraged to submit research abstracts for regular and/or competing (full paper) entries that are within the scope of the theme. Papers must not have been presented (or are being considered for presentation) in any other national and international conferences. Deadline of submission of research abstracts and full papers for competing entries is on September 30, 2013, and for regular entries on October 30, 2013 preferably by email and send to the paper and poster screening committee (ka_ballada@yahoo.com or rommiboi@yahoo.com) and furnish a copy to the conference committee (lijerenai@yahoo.com).
