The PSSN-CAR, in cooperation with Mountain Province State Polytechnic College – Research Development & Extension Unit, will hold its 6th Annual Scientific Conference with the theme “Promoting Climate Smart and Sustainable Resource Management” at the Teng-ab Retreat House in Bontoc, Mountain Province on November 22-25, 2012. The four-day activity will be highlighted by plenary talks by invited experts on the different aspects of the theme (e.g. social science, technological and natural science perspectives) led by Dr. Cecilio Baga (Cebu Technological University), Dr. Arlen Ancheta (University of Santo Tomas), and Dr. Onofre Corpuz (Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology), paper and poster presentations by students and professionals, a general assembly, and a business meeting that will tackle issues concerning the chapter as well as the election of the new set of officers and the Board of Trustees of PSSN-CAR. The conference aims to bring together scientists, educators, environmental managers and students from all over the CAR and nearby regions to address the conference’s 3-fold objectives:
- To share research and experiences on climate change adaptation and sustainable resource management
- To present, by way of the plenary talks, strategies and efforts that have been effective in addressing issues on climate change, disaster risk response management, and sustainable resource use
- To present current issues that concern species, habitats and ecosystems within the country
A preconference tour is also scheduled on the first day of the conference to allow participants to explore, enjoy and learn from the natural wonders, history, culture and the agricultural practices of the people of the Mountain Province. (Read More)
